AVIE Consulting Ltd was established in 2013 by Chartered Structural Engineers Graham Helme (BSc (Hons), CEng, MIStructE, MICE) and Nick North (BEng (Hons), CEng, MIStructE) after many years working for consulting engineers and developers based around the Yorkshire area.
Our team has since grown from three to 12. Find out more about our key personnel below:
Graham is one of the founding Directors of AVIE Consulting Ltd and is a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 40 years experience in the construction industry. He remains actively involved in the design of a wide range of building structures, with a particular interest in all forms of off-site construction including modular, SIPs, lightweight steel frame and timber frame construction. Graham is an Approved Certifier of Design (Building Structures) for buildings in Scotland, and is an NHBC Timber Frame Certifier and Lightweight Steel Frame Certifier. He is also a Principal Designer.
Away from work Graham enjoys hill walking and exploring places off the beaten track.
Nick is one of the founding Directors of AVIE Consulting Ltd and is a Chartered Structural Engineer with over 25 years experience in a variety of construction projects for various sized consultancies. Nick specialises in the design of off-site construction solutions in the education and health sectors. Nick also has experience in the commercial, retail and residential sectors and has particular interest in refurbishment and conservation projects.
Away from work Nick enjoys running, swimming and is a very keen cyclist.
Julie is an Associate at Avie who has been Chartered since 2007. Having worked previously for various engineering consultancies, Julie joined AVIE in 2013. Julie has particular interest and experience in modular buildings and steel framed schools and hospitals.
Away from work Julie enjoys kayaking, cycling and climbing even though she has a fear of heights!
Steve Joined Avie Consulting in May 2019 from a local engineering practice.
Steve is a professionally qualified Senior Civil Engineer with over 25 year’s experience of design and implementation of highway and multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects. Steve gained his experience whilst employed by Local Authorities, working in the private sector under public/private partnerships and in the development sector. He’s skilled in managing, mentoring and leading design teams and multi-disciplinary projects and has a reputation for innovative and cost effective engineering solutions.
In his spare time (which he says he doesn’t have much of!) Steve enjoys renovating his holiday home in Northumberland and walking on the beautiful beaches there.
Chris is a Chartered Senior Structural Engineer with a background in both research and design. Chris has worked on a number of large and small projects both at home and internationally; including sports venues, museums, art installations, accommodation, and bespoke housing to name but a few. He has design experience with a wide range of materials including structural glass, fabrics, and more traditional materials, with experience in seismic and vibration design. He also maintains a keen interest in current research.
When not at work he enjoys spending time with his family, walking and camping out in the wild, or working on his next DIY project.
Maria is the Practice Manager with over 30 years experience in office management and administration within various industries. Maria has worked in the construction industry since 2005 and joined AVIE in 2013.
Away from work Maria enjoys walking and showing off her culinary skills to family and friends.
